"Chickadee" original painting on Italian tile. By award-winning artist Gene Sherman, winner
of the 2003 and 2005 Idaho Ducks Unlimited print competitions. This little bird flew into Gene's
apple tree for a brief time last winter. Gene thought the bird was so elegant that he
photographed and painted the image on an Italian tile. Gene uses high-fired glaze paint on the
tile, which is then fired in a kiln for twelve hours at 1880 degrees. The finished painting
becomes a permanent part of the tile and is then float mounted and framed in Gene's signature
molding. It is a unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Gene's art can also be seen at the New

Robert Mondavi
Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 1981 (3 Liter). Back in the mid to late 80's, Robert Mondavi Winery
had a big get-together with their distributors across the country, complete with wine tastings,
cooking demonstrations, meetings, and of course a lot of food and wine. At the conclusion of the
two-day meeting, each couple was presented with a special 3-liter bottle of Reserve Cabernet
that featured hand-painted labels created by Margrit Mondavi, Robert's wife. The 1987 meeting
marked Robert's 50th year in the wine business, dating back to the year he graduated from
Stanford and joined his father's Charles Krug Winery and continuing through his founding of his
own winery in 1966. Having sold the family winery a couple of years ago, this bottle represents
a special piece of history. We've drunk a couple of the bottles we received, but decided that
maybe we could share this one.

"Lithic Stone Knife". Handcrafted obsidian knife with a deer horn handle. This knife was
created by Doug Leatham after doing years of research on the tools used by native communities
for scraping hides and hunting. Obsidian knives have been found at ancient burial sites dating
back over 1000 years. Doug has perfected flint knapping through hours of trial and error, using
a flint knapping tool to induce and control the fracture of the stone to form the blade and its
sharp edge. The knife has been beautifully float mounted with two feathers and is framed in
four-inch-wide solid wood. Doug shows and sells his knives in prestigious art shows across the
Western United States. This original one-of-a-kind knife will enhance your office or home. The

Kenwood Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon 1994 (6 Liter). A few years after Marty and Michael
Lee founded Kenwood Vineyards, they decided that they needed a special label for their Reserve
Cabernet and elected to emulate Chateau Mouton-Rothschild by having an artist create a different
label for each vintage. The first Cabernet sporting this new label was the 1975; and the first
artist was David Lance Goines, who created a nude woman reclining on a hill. They innocently
labeled the bottles and sold most of the wine before they were informed by the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms that the label was pornographic and could not be used. They
retrieved most of the wine they had sold and asked the artist to create a new painting for the
label. This time he painted a skeleton reclining on the hill. The BATF was not amused and
rejected this label as well. Finally the wine was released with the painting of the hill only.
On the 20th vintage of Kenwood's Artist Series, they decided to resubmit Goines'
original nude on a hill and in a sign that times had indeed changed, the label was approved, as
depicted on the label you see tonight. If you want to see all three of the original labels, they
are on display at Vino Rosso.
